Republican Roger Marshall pulled out a tightly competitive race in Kansas Tuesday night, while President Donald Trump secured the state in the presidential race.
The back and forth race in Tuesday’s election was between the two term-congressman Marshall and Democratic state Senator Barbara Bollier in the most expensive political contest in state history.
The democratic senator set a state record by raising over $25 million for her campaign, setting a Kansas record, while Marshall raised $6.5 million. Outsiders poured in $41 million on advertising, with most of it coming from GOP groups supporting Marshall.
Republicans have not lost a Senate seat in Kansas since 1932.
